ISTE
ISTE
International Society for Technology in Education is a nonprofit organization where teachers and administrators can bring technology to the education environment. The website is a way to connect, share knowledge, and ideas concerning technology in the classroom. ISTE provides many ways for educators to incorporate technology in the classroom by setting standards, providing webinars, consulting services, and having access to online classes. The ISTE is a way to connect educators and technology by developing and knowledge and expertise while advocating policies and continued improvement in learning and teaching. ISTE is a great website for teachers who are looking to make their classroom a blended learning environment. The website is full of reviews for the latest in technology integration into the classroom. I explored OERs or open educational resources and Myhistro, which is an interactive timeline that is free. Along with student and teacher standards for technology, ISTE can bring the latest in technology to a classroom and provide a rich learning environment.

iStudiez
iStudiez
iStudiez is an app used in apple and windows operating systems that provide students the ability to keep up on homework and know what is scheduled for their classes. The overview can show the day, week, or monthly schedule for a student. The overview also shows the closest events in time to the student. iStudiez allows the student to view homework and assignments with tools that organize the academic work. The schedule planner is where the details of the events are inputted. I liked this app for students who are somewhat organized. The caveat is the student must input the data. I first thought this app would be great as an organizer for a student but then realized if the student is already having problems with organizational skills they might have problems inputting the data. This app might be useful for students in a school environment which might not have all classes in a LMS. Whereas, a school environment which has all the classes using the same LMS could provide a detailed account of the student’s schedule and assignment due dates.

Science360 for iPad
Science360 for iPad
The National Science Foundation has created an app for the iPad named “Science360”. Science360 brings science and engineering images to the user from around the world. The content is provided by scientist and universities. Features of this app include streaming video with a varying degree of topics about science and engineering. Another feature that is useful to a student is the single touch save, which can help students find images to help enrich their learning. Science360 is an excellent tool for teaching students from kindergarten to grade 12. The images provide a great supplement to science units being shown. As a user of the app, you can find just about any science topic from biology to geology. I believe Science360 can serve a blended classroom well as it provides students another representation to a science subject.

Using Canvas Media Comments
Using Canvas Media Comments
Media comments are either audio or video comments. There are two types of how media comments can occur either pre-existing media or record the comment. The media comment tool can also be used on a discussion board. This can be useful as students may want to use the video comment rather than typing out the discussion. Media comments can be used in wiki pages too. With assignments, Canvas allows of video and audio comments for assignments. This allows a more personal assessment of assignments. I think this could be very useful knowledge for Canvas. Media comments can be helpful for students that need an accommodation because of a writing specific learning disorder. Understanding how to use the audio or video component of Canvas will enrich the learning of student in the classroom.

Anant Agarwal: Why massive open online courses still matter
Anant Agarwal: Why massive open online courses still matter
MOOC is a massive open online courses acronym. MOOC can provide a learning opportunities to anyone with an internet connection. The millennial generation is different; they are comfortable in an online learning environment. Blended learning can provide an active learning environment. In a blended learning environment, a student can combine learning and retention which relates to a deeper understanding of the material. I believe that blended classrooms are critical to the future of teaching because it promotes an active learning environment. Students can learn at their rate as opposed to the speed in which the instructor teaches. With blended classrooms, you can have instant feedback. Different techniques in blended learning can help students retain the information such as gamification. Classmates can help each other learn in a blended learning environment. Finally, a blended classroom can reduce the cost of teaching by providing material to the students online thus, cutting down on the cost of textbooks.

Technology Review: A Blended Learning Solution For K12 Education
A Blended Learning Solution For K12 Education
Traditional classroom environments must have an instructor driven atmosphere to continue the educational process. Blended learning uses different approaches to education along with the use of technology that can be integrated into the classroom or online learning environments. Technology combined with various approaches to learning can bring out effective student-teacher interaction and improve student-learning outcomes. The three aspects of blended learning (current classroom environment, blended classroom environment, and online only environment) provide the best opportunity for students to understand their subject matter. An LMS can provide all three of these aspects. Furthermore, Canvas an LMS gives the instructor all of the elements discussed in this article. Going forward, instructors will need to change the way they teach to students as technology integration grows in our society.
